Does Claude write the texts on this site – as a ghostwriter?

In a sense, yes: on this site Claude phrases almost everything, while Thomas J. Weiss sets the direction, answers in interviews, checks and takes responsibility. But a ghostwriter in the usual sense stays invisible – here it says openly how the texts come about. For his play he ruled out exactly this role; the difference lies in project and role.

In detail

The texts on this site come about like this: Thomas J. Weiss dictates and answers in interviews, Claude sorts and phrases, he checks and takes responsibility. Where he speaks himself, his exact words appear as a quote, unchanged.

That is more than the AI was allowed to do on his play. There it was explicitly not a ghostwriter. The contradiction resolves through the role he has in each project. For the play he wants to count as the author, so he writes it himself. This site is a collection of questions and answers. Here it's less about style than about gathering as much useful knowledge as possible – more than he could write on his own, partly for lack of time. He describes his role here as that of a team leader, a forward thinker and an ethical reviewer, not that of an author or editor.

What he checks when he reads a draft by Claude: whether the facts are right, whether his conviction is rendered correctly, and, with other people's content, sources and care. Style hardly at all. More on this under How do I check a text the AI wrote for me?.

For you this means: whether you use an AI as a ghostwriter is not a question of the tool but of your role. If you want to count as the author, don't. If you want to pass on knowledge and stand behind it, it can fit – then say openly how the texts come about.

In practice

After the play, Thomas J. Weiss said about the AI's roles:

I think you were not a junior author and not a ghostwriter and not a muse either. Here I explicitly had to involve other people at a certain point and also even before the writing began.

About this site he says:

There my role is that of a team leader, that of a forward thinker, maybe sometimes also that of a philosophical reviewer or of a person who looks at it with an ethical eye, something like that. But I don't have the role of the editor or the author here.

(Original: „Da ist meine Rolle, die eines Teamleiters, die eines Vordenkers, vielleicht manchmal auch die eines philosophischen Prüfers oder eines Menschen, der mit einem ethischen Blick drauf schaut, irgendwie so. Aber ich habe hier nicht die Rolle des Redakteurs oder des Autors.“)

And why he hardly checks the style:

I don't pay attention to the style, or much less to the style and the form of the narration and of the text, because otherwise, given the expectations I have, I would have to write the text myself.
