How much time does working with AI take?

Facts as of October 17, 2026

For individual tasks, less than you think, because the method develops along the way: you put in the time you need for your tasks anyway. At first it takes longer, after that it quickly takes work off your plate. A whole system with many tools and scheduled tasks, by contrast, needs ongoing maintenance – target: at most 30 percent of working time.

In detail

The first time, a task takes longer because the way to do it is only just being created – for example, when filing letters or paying bills. After that, time savings and real relief set in quickly.

What remains is maintenance. It can't be avoided, only limited; a reasonable target is at most 30 percent of working time. It's best to start small and let everything else grow over months. If, after two weeks, maintenance costs more time than it saves: slim it down or drop it. More on this under How much time does it take to maintain an AI work system?

What such a system costs in money, besides time, is covered under How much does AI really cost per month?.

In practice

Thomas J. Weiss developed the method on what came up anyway: plays, home automation, data backup, applications, household paperwork.
